7 ways to make everyday life more sparkly

Sometimes when Christmas and the festive season is over and you get back into a routine, be it work or university, the days can feel just a little bit dull. The twinkly lights have come down, the (good) chocolates have all been eaten, and come the return of the working week I find I have to work a little harder to make sure I don't get stuck in a rut and let months roll by with nothing exciting or special to note. This is especially true during January and February when its cold, grey and winter feels almost never ending. Fun shouldn't be saved for a special occasion though, so I thought I'd list a few of my favourite ways to make everyday life just a bit more sparkly!

  1. Don't be afraid of a solo date. Learning to be happy and content in your own company, especially when everyone else has gone into actual winter hibernation, is so important. Take some time for yourself, make a solo date, and learn to enjoy it wholeheartedly, without that niggling awkward feeling of 'oh my god everyone thinks I'm a massive loser! (FYI they definitely don't.) My favourite things to do are popping out for an peach ice tea/hot chocolate on my bill or having a bubble bath so colourful I feel like a mermaid. 
  2. Wear what makes you feel fabulous. There no such thing as being over dressed so if you want to rock your best red lipstick to go do your weekly shop or sparkle in your favourite sequin mini dress while you pop to the post office go for it! Don't save your favourite outfit for a special occasion and end up never getting to wear it. 
  3. Say yes more! You don't have to say yes to everything all the time (you know best what's really not your cup of tea), but trying hard to say yes to different kinds of adventures and proposals from people, old and new, is so worth it. Even more so if it scares you a little bit! If you say yes once in a while you may be surprised at how much more you enjoy yourself. 
  4. Get creative and indulge in some old school arts and crafts. It is unbelievable how therapeutic it is to get out your best glittery gel pens, an old pile of magazines and do some scrap booking. Or if that's not your style, like everyone else in the world I'm currently super into the adult colouring book trend!
  5. Don't live for the weekend, if you do you'll miss so many opportunities to make a little mischief or magic. Make plans to go out on a Tuesday night (it'll be worth dragging yourself into the cold I promise) or a treat yourself to your favourite lunch on a Thursday afternoon, just don't leave all the fun for the last two days of the week!
  6. Don't let one down day ruin the rest of your week. Its natural you'll have a down day every now and again, you're only human after all, but it's important to try not to let that sadness spill over. Don't feel guilty about it, and don't feel like the rest of the week is ruined because you had to take some time out for yourself. Indulge yourself however you need to, hello duvet day, and then move on.
  7. Do something nice for someone else. An oldie but an absolute goldie! If you want to make your own life better I think one of the best ways to do it is to try and inject some happiness into someone else's.
